Edition 85: The CatchPhrase Issue

Current Social Media Trend: List the 5 phrases you say on repeat. We tried it on ourselves. Figured we’d get a laugh.
When we wrote our 5 down, we realized they’re not random. Every single one is a piece of advice we give or receive each week.
So here they are. Our 5 most-repeated phrases + the actual lesson hiding inside each one.
1. "Put your good big girl pants on and get your head in the game."
This one comes out when someone is avoiding the hard thing instead of doing it. The KOL who intimidates you. The congress prep you keep pushing to tomorrow. The follow-up you’ve rewritten 4 times and haven’t sent.
The pants line is just a nicer way of saying: avoiding is costing you more than the doing would.
MSLs: want to get promoted? You have to speak like a leader before you ever get the title. That’s exactly what we build in RISE: Speak Like a Leader, MSL Style (first week of November). Come practice it with us (Sign up here).
Pants on. Head in. Go!!
2. "Let's double-click on that." (This one's all Patrina.)
Patrina's been saying this in every meeting. It’s the single best habit you can steal from her.
Double-clicking IS the whole job in Medical Affairs. When a KOL tells you “the data looks promising,” that’s your cue, not your answer. Ask the next layer down: promising compared to what, for which patients?
Try it this week. The next time you’re about to nod along, ask one more question. That’s where your insight lives, and it’s usually two questions deeper than most people go.
Aspiring MSLs: this is also how you pick a presentation topic that lands. Pick the one you can double-click on, the angle that shows how you actually think. That’s exactly what we’re working through next Tuesday: Picking Your Presentation Topic (Sign Up Here).
3. "Grab the Magic 8 Ball."
Here’s a habit you should retire. You have a great intro at a congress, you mean to follow up, and then you sort of… shake the Magic 8 Ball. “Reply hazy, try again later.” A week goes by. Then two.
Follow-up timing shouldn’t be a mystery toy. Give it a rule so you never have to guess:
→ Thank-you or recap: within 24 hours, while it’s fresh.
→ The real follow-up (the resource, the answer, the next step): 3 to 5 days.
→ No response? One nudge at 10 to 14 days, then let it breathe.
Put the 8 Ball down. Put the follow-up on your calendar.
4. "It's bananas!"
We say this about once an hour, usually about AI. A tool that didn’t exist in the spring of 2026 is now running half of someone’s congress prep. It’s bananas. 🍌
But “it’s bananas” can’t be where it stops. Saying the pace is wild doesn’t help you keep up with it. Name it, then pick one thing. One workflow. One tool. One hour this week to get a little less behind.
People who stay calm while everything changes are the ones grabbing bananas by the bunch.
5. "We have a prompt for that."
This is less a phrase and more a reflex. Usually, the AI prompt is already in the chat. “Here, try this one,” Patrina says Sarah does it in her sleep.
The MSL who tries to figure stuff out on their own won't succeed in 2027 and beyond. The MSL who uses AI as a thinking partner will.
So in that spirit, keep scrolling. The prompt is below. Obviously.
🎲 The Game: Who Said It, Sarah or Patrina?
Match the phrase to the person.
- “Let’s double-click on that.”
- “Put your good big girl pants on.”
- “It’s bananas.”
- “Here, try this prompt.”
. . .
Answer key: 1. Both of us 2. Patrina 3. Both of us 4. Sarah (usually before you’ve even finished the question)
Your Mira Prompt of the Week: Kill the Magic 8 Bali
Open Mira (or ChatGPT, or Claude) and paste your messy notes from a recent meeting, then try:
“Act as a Medical Affairs follow-up planner. Here are my rough notes from a meeting. Pull out every promise I made, every open question, and every next step. Then build me a simple follow-up plan with specific timing: what to send in the next 24 hours, what to send in 3 to 5 days, and what to check back on in two weeks. Keep it short enough that I’ll actually use it.”
Two minutes, and the Magic 8 Ball is unemployed. 🎱
(Quick reminder: keep confidential, proprietary, and patient information out of any public AI tool. When the data is sensitive, use your company’s approved, secure system.)
TL;DR: The Catchphrase Issue
→ “Big girl pants on.” Pick the hard thing and start.
→ “Let’s double-click.” The insight is usually two questions deeper than people go.
→ "Grab the Magic 8 Ball." Stop guessing on follow-up.
→ “It’s bananas.” The pace of AI is real. Start peeling.
→ "We have a prompt for that." There's a right way to use AI.
5 phrases. 5 lessons we apparently can’t stop giving. You’re welcome. 😉
In your corner always,
Patrina, Sarah & Ralph
P.S. If you only steal one of these, steal " let's double-click.
