Edition 63: Copilot Researcher Prompts

Recently, a Medical Affairs team asked us to train them Copilot Researcher and Analyst agents.
So naturally, we did what we do best. We went bananas on this.
We tested them. We prompted them. We ran deep research reports. We tried different Medical Affairs workflows. We compared outputs. We asked ourselves, “Would this actually help an MSL, a manager, or a Medical Affairs leader do better work?”
And what we discovered is this:
These agents are awesome.
And also?
Totally underutilized.
Which is funny, because we love using AI deep research reports for everything. Sarah reaches her limit on these by Thursday of every week. 😂 But that is exactly why we feel so strongly about this.
If your company has given you access to Copilot Researcher Agent, you should absolutely be using it. It can save you buckets of time.
The “please pull together scattered information from 14 places and help me make sense of it before my brain leaves the building” kind of time.
This week, we’re showing you:
1️⃣ How to see if your company has blessed you with Copilot Researcher Agent
2️⃣ 3 Medical Affairs use cases to try first
3️⃣ One prompt you can use right away
4️⃣ And another wildly underutilized AI move that can make Copilot sound more like you
And if you do not have Copilot, keep reading.
These workflows also work in other deep research models.
1. How to Check If You Have Copilot Researcher Agent
Open Microsoft Copilot and look at the left-hand panel. Depending on how your company’s Copilot instance is set up, Researcher may show up under Agents or inside the “+” button.
If you don’t see it, ask your manager or IT team: “Do we have access to Copilot Researcher and Analyst agents, or are they on the roadmap?”
Tiny check. Potentially very big unlock.

2. 3 Ways Medical Affairs Should Be Using Researcher Agent Right Now
Here are 3 practical ways Medical Affairs teams can use Copilot Researcher Agent without making this feel complicated:
1️⃣MSL pre-meeting planning so you can avoid the KOL research rabbit hole
2️⃣ Field Medical coaching prep so managers can spot themes faster
3️⃣ SWOT drafts so teams have a stronger starting point
That’s the short version.

3. Try This Prompt for KOL Pre-Meeting Planning
Here’s one prompt you can test this week. Use it in Copilot Researcher Agent, ChatGPT Deep Research, Gemini Deep Research, Perplexity, or another approved deep research tool your company allows.
“You are a Medical Affairs strategist helping an MSL prepare for a high-value KOL meeting. Build a strategic profile for [KOL NAME] in [THERAPEUTIC AREA] using public sources and any available internal sources, including publications, congress activity, trial involvement, prior notes, CRM notes, emails, and medical strategy materials. The meeting goal is [GOAL]. Create a skimmable brief that explains what this KOL appears to care about, how their scientific focus is evolving, where they may challenge or align with our strategy, what shared goal may exist, and how the MSL can add value in the next conversation. Include recommended discussion objectives, smart questions, follow-up opportunities, key sources, and confidence level. Do not create a biography.”
Definitely try it in Researcher if you have it though. That way it can pull in your emails, calendar and Teams chats.

4. One More Underused AI Move: Personalize Your AI
While we’re talking about underused AI tools, here’s another one:
Personalizing your AI.
If Copilot keeps giving you drafts that you have to rewrite, trim, soften, sharpen, or completely rescue:
That’s not using AI strategically. That’s proofreading AI and a waste of time.
In our Train Your AI to Sound Like You 60-min hands-on workshop, we’ll help you build custom Copilot instructions that reflects how you communicate, coach, delegate, and lead.

TL;DR
If your company gave you Copilot Researcher Agent, don’t let it sit there bored out of its mind. Give it some fun projects that will also save you time.
Start here:
-
Check the left-hand panel to see if you have Researcher or Analyst agents.
-
Use Researcher for strategic workflows like KOL prep, coaching prep, and SWOT drafts.
-
Personalize your AI so Copilot stops sounding generic and starts sounding like someone who knows how you lead.
AI should save you time.
But the bigger win is this:
It should help you think faster, prepare better, and communicate more like yourself.
Reply to this email to let us know if you have Researcher but didn’t know it. And if one of our prompts blew your mind. We want to know!

P.S. If you have other ideas for where Researcher would help Medical Affairs folks save time, reply to this email and tell us. We will write a prompt for it.
